Stephen D. Benedetto

Stephen D. Benedetto is a founding partner of Benedetto Torgenson, PLC. Mr. Benedetto is licensed to practice law in the states of Arizona and California, including United States District courts in both of those states, as well as the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. In June 2010, Mr. Benedetto was appointed as a Judge Pro Tem to the Maricopa County Superior Court – one of the youngest lawyers in Maricopa County to be awarded that honor. Prior to founding Benedetto Law, PLC, the predecessor to Benedetto Torgenson, PLC, Mr. Benedetto worked as a litigator for three “NLJ 250” law firms – Quarles & Brady, Fennemore Craig, and Polsinelli Shughart. He has extensive experience in many different areas of litigation, with particular expertise in commercial contract disputes and white collar crime.

Before entering private practice, Mr. Benedetto served as a judicial clerk to the current Chief Justice of the Arizona Supreme Court, Rebecca White Berch. He is a cum laude graduate of the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University, where he was a member of the Arizona State Law Journal, an inductee into the Order of the Barristers Moot Court Honor Society, a Rule 38 prosecutor for the City of Phoenix, and a court-appointed mediator in the Maricopa County justice court system.

Mr. Benedetto focuses his practice on constitutional litigation, criminal defense, and complex commercial litigation.

John P. Torgenson

John P. Torgenson is the managing partner of Benedetto Torgenson, PLC. Mr. Torgenson, a cum laude graduate of Notre Dame Law School, is licensed to practice in the State of Arizona, the United States District Court for the District of Arizona, and the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Torgenson practices in the areas of plaintiffs’ personal injury trial litigation, commercial litigation, high school and college athletic eligibility and disciplinary appeals, general and real estate fraud, criminal defense, family law and general tort litigation. In addition to his litigation work, Mr. Torgenson has gained a specialized area of knowledge with respect to assessing, managing, and minimizing risk for commercial gyms, personal training studios, and numerous adventure companies throughout Arizona by evaluating policies and drafting liability releases and waivers. Mr. Torgenson draws on his experience gained in 13 years as a commercial river guide in the Grand Canyon to best minimize risk for Benedetto Torgenson’s clients.

Before establishing Benedetto Torgenson, PLC, Mr. Torgenson practiced in the litigation group at Fennemore Craig, the oldest law firm in Arizona and one of the largest firms in the Southwest. Mr. Torgenson has significant deposition, arbitration, mediation, and courtroom experience. Mr. Torgenson helps clients to meet their business and legal goals through loyal and unwavering advocacy.

Having practiced at Fennemore Craig in both the defense and plaintiffs’ practice areas gives Mr. Torgenson a complete perspective of the litigation process and valuable insight into how to efficiently and effectively advance his clients’ interests. Mr. Torgenson continues to represent both plaintiffs and defendants today. Moreover, Mr. Torgenson’s unique and balanced background enhances his credibility with defense lawyers, insurers, and defendants, as well as with judges and arbitrators.

Mr. Torgenson realizes that civic and community involvement is essential in order for him to keep a solid balance between his professional and personal life. He has been on the Fiesta Bowl Committee for four years, has coached the 7th and 8th grade football teams at St. Francis Xavier for the past three years, is an active member of the Notre Dame Club of Phoenix and the Los Abogados Hispanic Bar Association, and serves meals at Andre House. Mr. Torgenson is also a member of Grand Canyon River Guides and is a licensed Grand Canyon River Guide.
